Artist's Statement

Painting a plein air painting in oils:

When I go out to a place to paint, I scan the whole view, smell the air, watch the comings and goings of the area. Something will call to me and I begin the painting.

The hours pass and a new understanding of the whole environment emerges. Birds, insects, trees, fish introduce themselves to me, and I am offered an insight into the wonders of the world we live in.

As the light changes, the clouds appear and move away, the shadows grow, the painting carries with it the message of the moment.

I like to apply the paint with a brush and a palette knife. The feel of the color being spread on the canvas is a kind of dance.

Southern New England is rich in open space and small towns and villages by the sea like Stonington have a storybook charm.

Caricature Illustration

This is a caricature of Morely Safer drawn from life.
I was commissioned to do this for a fund raiser
and Mr Safer was kind enough to give 60 minutes
of his time for me to complete it.

Caricature of Imus

Here is one of Imus!
He looked like he liked it.
I was commissioned by the event coordinator to
do a caricature of Don Imus as a thank you gift!

Corporate Caricatures and Big groups!

Sometimes I'm commissioned to draw someone from the office or at the workplace.
I'm asked to draw groups of people in their corporate setting. They are printed on T Shirts, on
company info, on the internet, posters... and the list goes on.

Caricatures at parties and events

I love to draw people live!
After 40 years, it's still a blast!
And the guests at the events seem to
enjoy the results!

Elaine is now booking caricature events for 2010
